With saddened heart, we learned of the tragedy that befell our country, the State of Arizona, and, most directly, the staff, friends, and families of those killed and wounded today in Tucson. On behalf of my firm, I convey our condolences, prayers, and thoughts to all those affected.
In particular, we send our prayers for full recovery and health to the individuals wounded who remain hospitalized including, specifically, U.S. Representative Gabrielle Giffords.
Our condolences and most sincere sympathies to the families of those who lost their lives today including, specifically, the Honorable John Roll and the nine-year-old child.
All lost and injured were innocent.
Of course, having worked for a United States Senator; having served as a law clerk for a federal district court judge; and, being an attorney, the tragedies of this afternoon have affected me in a particular way. To the staff and law clerks of Judge Roll and Representative Giffords, my thoughts remain with you.
Today, our political system has been affected; our judicial system affected; our country affected; our peace affected – all of us affected.
Our family today spoke about what occurred and explained to our young the unthinkable. A six-year-old response: “I wish we could live forever. I wish no one shot other people. I wish there were no guns so people could not shoot people.”
I could not have said it better.
